Public safety is the most imperative priority.

To be perfectly clear, I am in full support of our Police Services. I have a great deal of respect for Chief Bergen and the entire Police Service.

Media releases have been claiming that “Crime is Down”, but snapshots of statistics without context do not tell the whole story.

Hamilton’s Police Services have implemented some much needed new initiatives including the Intimate Partner Violence unit. These changes are making a difference.

During the last election cycle, four years ago, many candidates ran on a “Defund The Police” platform. Several of those candidates were elected. And a few of those elected officials ended up on the Hamilton Police Services Board. The members of the Police Services Board must understand the needs and challenges of both the Hamilton Police Service and the citizens these elected officials represent in order to be an effective body of oversight.

Again, Public Safety is any Elected Official’s first priority of concern.
